love ~

no anime story is complete without a bit of romance tied in. as hikaru is considered the "main character" of MKR, one would assume that she would be the first to find a love interest. if not her, then umi, who is beautiful and confident.

but it's shy little fuu who winds up in love. and with a scoundrel, no less! although ferio sheds that perception pretty quickly, he's still the rough vagabond and she's still the quiet, smart schoolgirl.

fuu and ferio change each other very deeply, a change which is most obvious in ferio. ferio was used to caring about himself, but as he grew to care for this fragile yet courageous young woman, he began to realize that it wasn't "all about him." the lonesome young man found something worth protecting and nurturing, both of which he does.

he is nearly a completely different person in season II: his flirtatious attitude is nearly nonexistant and he is nothing but gentle to fuu. he himself is in pain, from the devastating events that had taken place, but he sees that fuu is in even more pain from what she had done to his sister.

fuu, on the other hand, was the exact opposite of the ferio that she met in the forest. she was shy and reserved, and not particularly self-confident. once she was able to see past ferio's flirtatiousness and see that he genuinely cared for her, she began to truly return his feelings and see him as a friend (and more).

fuu is very fragile and needs to be taken care of (although, she can watch out for herself if she has to). ferio holds her when she cries, and tries to comfort her. he supports her and, when she was overcome with guilt about emeraude, he reassured her that it wasn't her fault and that he didn't blame her at all.

we don't actually see this in the series, but it's safe to assume that being apart from each other is very difficult for both of them. they're both the type of people who would only cry when no one was looking, but they would miss each other constantly.

as for their future? according to the manga, the girls can travel to and from cephiro together. my personal theory is that fuu will, when she's older, eventually remain in cephiro, giving up her life in tokyo, to be with her prince and his country that she loves.
