each of the knights searched for, found, and connected spiritually with her own mashin, giant mecha spirits that they pilot for added protection and power.

"mashin" is a play on words. it sounds like the english word "machine," which is what they technically are. "shin" is a japanese word for "god" and the mashin are called in the english version "rune-gods." they are giant mechanical dieties.

windam is fuu's mashin. in his animal form, he is a giant, green, four-winged pheonix with golden eyes. in his mecha (his true) form, his armor is green and matches fuu's, and he has giant white wings with a pheonix face decorating the armor around his face.

the bond between knight and mashin is very strong. windam feels everything that fuu feels; he is a part of her. he is always there when she calls on him for aid, and even for comfort. he is like a close friend that is always in her heart, and always ready to protect her. he wants only what is best for his knight.
